Jazz Appreciation Month on WRTI

Jazz Appreciation Month

WRTI presents a special celebration of the pioneers of jazz, as well as those who are keeping the art form alive. Tune in for a unique experience!

On Mondays through Thursdays during the month of April, starting at 6 pm to 6 am, you'll hear fascinating vignettes on the lives of a variety of jazz artists, and then experience their music. In addition, each week there will be a different instrumental theme. And Sundays during BP's jazz show, from 11 am to 3 pm, you'll be serenaded by great jazz vocalists from the present and the past.

The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Honor WRTI

WRTI was recently recognized for excellence in classical music and jazz broadcasting and for providing superior training to up-and-coming broadcasters for the past 60 years.

WRTI received an award from the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia on January 14, 2008, saluting the radio station for excellence in music programming, and for its accomplishments as a home for broadcasters wishing to learn the craft for the past 60 years.

Pavarotti in Archival <i>La Boh?me</i> Met Opera Performance that Launched Him to Superstar Status

Tune to WRTI on Saturday, January 19th, when the Metropolitan Opera will broadcast a historic performance of Puccini's La Boh?me, starring the late Luciano Pavarotti with the legendary Renata Scotto, conducted by Maestro James Levine. Originally broadcast on March 19, 1977, this performance was the inaugural Live from the Met telecast that turned Pavarotti into an American superstar.

Richard Strauss: Salome

Salome, nubile and depraved, daughter of Herodias is the coveted stepchild of lascivious Herod, ruler of Judea.

But the prophet rejects her, and Salome will do anything to have his head--including revealing all for Herod, who will give anything to see her perform the Dance of the Seven Veils.
