BP's Look at the Life of Pianist Ray Bryant

Pianist Ray Bryant is featured on BP's jazz show on March 29th at 1 pm.

Join WRTI's Bob Perkins on Sunday, March 29th at 1 pm as he takes an in-depth look at the interesting musical life of pianist and composer Ray Bryant. A Philly native, Bryant began his climb to stardom right here in 1951 playing at some of the most happening jazz clubs at that time with greats such as Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. Miles was so impressed with the young pianist that, in 1955, he asked him to record with him in New York City along with other jazz legends.

A legend has been lost. WRTI's beloved and long-time jazz host Harrison Ridley, Jr. passed away on Thursday, February 19th after a brief illness. His station colleagues mourn his death and celebrate his life. Will Mr. Ridley be immensely missed? His signature expression says it all: "Yes Indeedy!"

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) recently honored WRTI with the ASCAP Deems Taylor Radio Broadcast Award for outstanding classical music and jazz programming. Dave Conant and Maureen Malloy accepted the award during a ceremony in December at The Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
