Jules Massenet's most enduring opera, Manon, will be presented in a not-to-be-missed broadcast on Sunday afternoon on WRTI by the Academy of Vocal Arts. The opera, based on the 1731 novel L’histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut by the Abbé Prévost, tells the story of a young girl with conflicting desires for love and luxury, corrupted by the idea of the glamorous life.
Join us on Saturday, April 7th from **12 noon to 4 pm (note early start time) when soprano Anna Netrebko sings the title role in Massenet's MANON. Netrebko's dazzling portrayal of the tragic heroine in Laurent Pelly's new production travels to the Met from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Piotr Beczala and Paulo Szot also star, with the Met's Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi on the podium. Sung in French.
