Join us for an exciting two-concerto broadcast by the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. From two different concerts in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center, we’ll hear Mendelssohn and Haydn. From September 15, 2014, it's the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 40, and from October 20, 2014, the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major.
Dave Conant is your host on Sunday, November 16, 4 to 5 pm - one hour earlier than usual.
Mendelssohn: Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 40
The more you look and listen, the more you realize that classical music and jazz tend not to stay in separate lanes. Sometimes they won't even use turn signals. A good example is "With A Gentle Touch," from the CD, Classic Encounter by the Ramsey Lewis Trio with the Philharmonia Orchestra under James Mack. Warning: this is a habit-forming tune, as is the whole CD.
It's the first broadcast of the season for the acclaimed Symphony in C, and it's an exciting Sunday afternoon on WRTI. The program starts with the 2013 winner of Symphony in C's Young Composers' Competition, a work by Douglas Buchanan. Pianist Di Wu joins the orchestrafor a Rachmaninoff favorite, and the concert concludes with Tchaikovsky's final symphony. Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts. Sunday, October 14th, 3 to 5 pm.
