Mexico celebrated 200 years of independence on September 16, 2010. To mark the occasion, Sony Classical released this thoroughly enjoyable two-disc sampling of orchestral music written by Mexican composers over the last two centuries. Okay, 125 years, to be precise. The program was assembled by the young, Mexican-born, New York-based conductor Alondra de la Parra, who founded the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas in 2004 at age 23.

Our ''BP with the GM'' Receives Three Prestigious Awards in September

The Philadelphia jazz community has showered WRTI's Bob Perkins with a bevy of honors.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the preservation of jazz, Bob was an honoree at the 18th annual Tony Williams Scholarship Jazz Festival. He was presented with the Paul Robeson Freedom Fighter Award by the West Philadelphia Cultural Alliance at the Jazz at the Lansdowne Concert. And the City of Philadelphia awarded him with an official Citation signed by Mayor Michael Nutter for over 40 years of service as jazz radio host, jazz historian, and jazz advocate.
