Andreas Delfs

The leader of an ensemble such as Temple University’s Symphony Orchestra does much to educate and prepare the next generation of musicians. WRTI's Susan Lewis talked with Artistic Director Andreas Delfs, who says the learning goes both ways.

Drawing on the musically rich resources of Philadelphia, conductor Andreas Delfs plans to put his stamp on how universities can be agents of change, and has bold ideas for reinventing the presentation of classical music. What will a symphony concert be like 10 years from now, or even five? Mobile apps, multi-media elements, pop-up venues, cocktails?

As the seasons change we look for light on Now Is the Time, Saturday, September 19th at 9 pm. In deep woods in a disappearing afternoon, a stream falls onto a rock and inspires Michael Colquhoun's percussion trio Talking Rocks. Honoring the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia, we'll hear the Gloria from Roberto Sierra's Missa Latina “Pro Pace.” Andreas Delfs, the new director of the Temple University Orchestra, conducts on this recording.
