Join us on Sunday, May 7th from 1 to 3 pm and May 8th from 7 to 9 pm on HD-2  to hear guest conductor Michael Tilson Thomas conduct the Philadelphians in a performance of Beethoven’s Third Symphony, the mighty "Eroica," which proved to be not only a turning point in the composer’s career, but in the history of orchestral music.

Twentieth-century Austrian composer Alban Berg dedicated his Violin Concerto to the memory of the 18-year-old daughter of a friend. As WRTI’s Susan Lewis reports, the work evokes emotion not typically associated with the 12-tone style.

Mention the music of Vienna, and some of us automatically think of a waltz. But as WRTI’s Susan Lewis reports, the city was a musical magnet for composers, especially from the late 18th century through the 19th and beyond.

WOZZECK's longtime champion James Levine conducts Berg’s gripping score of passion, despair, and murder. Deborah Voigt and Thomas Hampson step into the demanding roles of Marie and the hapless title character for the first time in their remarkable careers.
