Charlie Parker was born in Kansas City, Kansas in 1920. He died in 1955 at the age of 34 in New York City.

Opera Philadelphia is jumping off an even higher dive - an opera about the celebrated saxophonist, titled Charlie Parker's Yardbird that the Philadelphia Inquirer's David Patrick Stearns reports will bring many unexpected things to the Perelman Theater at its 2015 premiere.

Jealousy, betrayal, and murder—Shakespeare's drama finds new dimension in Verdi's blazing and revealingly expressive music. Soprnao Joyce Didonato sings the title role in Rossini's LA CENERENTOLA, the final Met Opera broadcast in the 2013/2014 season.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2013/2014 broadcast season concludes this Saturday with Gioacchino Rossini's La Cenerentola, starring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the title role, and tenor Juan Diego Flórez as her Prince Charming. AVA Opera Theater on WRTI: Massenet's MANON, May 4 at 3 PM

Bass-baritone Daniel Noyola and soprano Sydney Mancasola

Jules Massenet's most enduring opera, Manon, will be presented in a not-to-be-missed broadcast on Sunday afternoon on WRTI by the Academy of Vocal Arts. The opera, based on the 1731 novel L’histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut by the Abbé Prévost, tells the story of a young girl with conflicting desires for love and luxury, corrupted by the idea of the glamorous life.

The Don Is Back!

Opera Philadelphia's production of Mozart's DON GIOVANNI opens on April 25 at the Academy of Music.
