Netrebko and Vargas in Donizetti's The Elixir of Love: The Met Opera on WRTI, Jan. 25, 1 PM

Soprano sings Adina in Donizetti's L'ELISIR D'AMORE.

Soprano Anna Netrebko reprises her adorable Adina in this charming production of Gaetano Donizetti’s tender comedy. Acclaimed tenor Ramón Vargas is the love-struck Nemorino, and Erwin Schrott sings the likeable quack Dulcamara, whose "magic" potion causes as many problems as it solves, and maps the destiny of a love triangle involving a lovable bumpkin, a dashing sergeant, and a bewitching town flirt.

L'Elisir d'Amore (The Elixir of Love) includes the heartbreaking aria "Una furtiva lagrima."

Tchaikovsky's EUGENE ONEGIN: The Met Opera on WRTI, Jan. 18 at 1 PM

Baritone Mariusz Kwiecien sings the title role, and soprano Anna Netrebko sings Tatiana in The Metropolitan Opera's EUGENE ONEGIN.

Join us for an archival broadcast of Tchaikovsky’s fateful romance Eugene Onegin. Valery Gergiev conducts the performance from October 5th, 2013, which features soprano Anna Netrebko as the naive heroine Tatiana, baritone Mariusz Kwiecien as the aristocratic title character, and tenor Piotr Beczala as the poet Lenski. Mezzo-soprano Oksana Volkova sings the role of Tatiana’s sister, Olga, and Alexei Tanovitski sings Prince Gremin.

The 2013/14 Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast season begins on WRTI with a live broadcast of Verdi’s tragic masterpiece Rigoletto, set in Las Vegas and starring baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky in his first company performance of the title role. Tenor Matthew Polenzani co-stars as the Duke, and two artists make their network broadcast debuts: Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, who sings Gilda, and Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. Bass Štefan Kocán and mezzo-soprano Oksana Volkova are the corrupt siblings Sparafucile and Maddalena.
