Jazz with Bob Perkins

Monday through Thursday, 6 to 9 pm; Sunday 9 am to 1 pm

Lovingly known as “BP with the GM” (Bob Perkins with the Good Music), BP brings you that good music just in time for dinner during your work week, and keeps your Sunday brunch swinging. His selections are like a familiar hug from Jazz Land featuring your favorite standards and vocalists such as Sarah, Ella, and Nat, some Big Band legends including the Duke and the Count, and the giants of the instrumentals like Lee Morgan, Hank Crawford, Miles, and Coltrane. Take a listen to "Ol' BP" as he calls himself...you'll be back again and again.

Take a look at this photo album of Mr. Perkins through the years.

Organist Larry Goldings, Guitarist Peter Bernstein, and drummer Bill Stewart
Till Bronner

Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart's Ramshackle Serenade is a great album title for this splendid trio, the supplest and sharpest-tuned organ/guitar/drum trio making music today.

Their endurance as a unit—they’ve been recording together for many years and share more than a dozen recordings—has never been more pronounced or sophisticated.

A New Offering from John Coltrane: The Historic 1966 Live Concert at Temple University

Saxophonist John Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967)

1966. Frank Sinatra. The Beatles. The Righteous Brothers.  Stevie Wonder. Petula Clark. Bob Dylan. The formation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Music was coming from all directions....enter John Coltrane.

After an extensive career as a sideman and then 1960's bandleader, Trane's sonic explorations led him to push the envelope of what was popularly called jazz. His multi-dimensional experiments with scales, instrumentation, and format forever extended the boundaries of jazz.

A Queerly Cool Jazz Festival in Philadelphia

Composer, arranger, and pianist Billy Strayhorn was an openly gay black man living in New York City in the 1930s, which took much courage. His "Lush Life" explores that experience.

The William Way LGBT Community Center in Philadelphia first imagined the nation’s first LGBT Jazz Festival last year. And over the course of the year, the city, and the city’s jazz community - including the Philadelphia Jazz Project and Ars Nova Workshop - signed on.
