Jazz with Bob Perkins

Join your favorite jazz hosts for their favorite holiday jazz tunes!  On Christmas eve and Christmas night, from 6 to 9 pm, they'll each take an hour to bring you the best in seasonal jazz. Whether it's the “oldies but goodies,” or some holiday releases from this season, you’ll hear it from the WRTI hosts you depend on all year long for great jazz.

Join me on Sunday, November 4th at 1 pm for a special twist to the afternoon program.  Vocalist Mary Ellen Desmond will be singing some jazz favorites recorded live, here at the WRTI performance studio.  You'll hear three different pianists accompanying her during this session: Lucas Brown, Bill Schilling and Tom Lawton.  Don't miss it!

Join us from 6 to 9 pm on Monday, June 25th as WRTI's Bob Perkins crosses the Delaware to bring you his program live from the Sunset Jazz Series at Wiggins Park in Camden, NJ. 

What would happen if an inventive jazz record label decided to blend a great singer of standard-pop ballads with an outstanding jazz pianist? The two artists would be on their own--no other musicians--just the two of them, performing a number of time-honored classics.

Well, there was such an occurrence in June of 1975, at the Fantasy Recording Studios in Berkeley, California, when and where Tony Bennett and Bill Evans were recorded. A better result could not have been imagined.

Our "BP with the GM" will be honored with a Jazz Master Award by the Somers Point Jazz Society on Sunday, April 22nd. Take a drive down the shore and join the festivities - everyone's welcome! The award ceremony starts at 4:30 pm, and then The Joe Mancini Trio takes over at 6 pm. Details here.
