Keeping Score: 13 Days When Music Changed Forever on ENCORE!

The San Francisco Symphony’s radio project, The Keeping Score Series: 13 Days When Music Changed Forever, is about musical revolutions—about the composers, compositions, and musical movements that changed the way people heard, or thought about, music. Each program explores the historical backdrop and the musical precursors to the revolutionary change, as well as the lasting influence of that moment in music history.

This week's program: October 29, 1787:  The Premiere of Don Giovanni in Prague
With this work, Mozart attains his maturity and writes a masterpiece that dominates opera forever, echoing in Wagner and beyond. Suzanne Vega is host. Sunday, February 10, 5 to 6 pm.

The New York Philharmonic: Grieg, Beethoven, and Thibaudet on ENCORE!

Pittsburgh Symphony Music Director Manfred Honeck travels to New York this week to guest conduct a program with the New York Philharmonic that includes the Grieg Piano Concerto, with Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the piano. 

Also on the program, Beethoven Symphony No. 7, and a work inspired by the a composer's experiences in battle in World War I.  Sunday, Feb. 3rd, 3 to 5 pm.

New York Philharmonic: Gilbert, Shaham, and Rachmaninoff on ENCORE!

Alan Gilbert conducts this week's New York Philharmonic concert. Gil Shaham is guest soloist for the Violin Concerto by Samuel Barber.  We'll also hear Sergei Rachmaninoff's final orchestral work, the Symphonic Dances.  The concert opens with a contemporary work by American composer Steven Stucky. Wanamaker Organ Hour: From Bach to Sullivan

Join Jill Pasternak and Wanamaker Grand Court Organist Peter Richard Conte in our monthly program, recorded at Macy's Center City, on the world-famous Wanamaker Organ.  This month, it's works by J.S. Rachmaninoff and The Bucks County Choral Society: Dec. 30th, 5 pm

WRTI welcomes the Bucks County Choral Society to our broadcast line up. Don't miss a recording of the opening concert of their 40th season with Music Director Thomas Lloyd conducting a performance of the Rachmaninoff All-Night Vigil, a symphony for a cappella voices, considered a crowning achievement of Russian Orthodox choral literature. Two Sets of Four Seasons: Symphony in C on ENCORE!

Experience "The Four Seasons" with two composers from two continents. Hear the original work by Vivaldi, and then travel to South America to engage in the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, by Astor Piazolla.  Symphony in C Concertmaster Stefani Collins is soloist, with Music Director Rossen Milanov conducting.
