SOOVIN KIM, violinist

Violinist Soovin Kim visits Jill this week. Mr. Kim has quietly achieved a very high level of success in his years since graduating from Curtis. His latest recording of the 24 Paganini Caprices for solo violin is breath taking. All this has been accomplished while touring with the Musicians from Marlboro, performing in solo recitals with his accompanist Jeremy Denk, and with his trio. He is on the faculty of Yale University and Temple University, and will performing an all-Beethoven recital on May 17th, and on the 19th with program of Mozart trios.

This week Jill will be speaking with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec, who will be in town for the world premier of his newest work, USEFUL KNOWLEDGE--a Franklin Fantasy, commissioned by the American Philosophical Society for the celebration of Benjamin Franklin's 300th birthday. A brilliant educator as well, Mr. Moravec has been recognized as a significant new compositional voice receiving honors such as the Rome Prize and fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, the NEA and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Jason Vieaux, guitar

This week, a visit from one of today's most exciting new artists-guitarist Jason Vieaux. A 1992 winner of the Guitar Foundation of America's international competition, and a top prize winner in the 1996 Naumburg competition, Vieaux was honored as an artistic ambassador for the US to Southeast Asia in 1995. He was also an NPR "Young Artist-in-Residence" for 2002. He currently holds the position of chair of the guitar department at the Cleveland Institute, and continues to perform with orchestras world-wide to critical acclaim.
