Marilyn Maye, jazz singer

Jill Pasternak talks to the legendary jazz cabaret singer, who is in Philadelphia at the Prince Music Theater from June 11 to 15.

Maye's career has been multi-faceted, including 76 appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, singing alongside jazz icon Ella Fitzgerald, and performing at jazz clubs in NYC from the Copacabana to Birdland.

Discovered by Steve Allen in a Kansas City nightclub almost five decades ago, she went on to sing for Princess Grace in Monaco, with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, and at Lincoln Center.

Listen to Jill's interview with conductor JoAnn Falletta, and the radio broadcast premiere of Ernst von Dohnanyi's Violin Concerto No. 2 in C minor with Michael Ludwig, violin soloist, and Maestra Falletta conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Falletta, conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, will discuss this unique concerto for violin and orchestra - which does not use a violin section at all. She has since appeared as a soloist with numerous ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, and performed chamber music in many of the world's great concert halls. She is the founder and artistic director of the Dolce Suono Chamber Music Concert Series, entering its third season in its new home at First Unitarian Church, Philadelphia.

Giovanni De Chiaro: Classical Guitarist

This week Jill Pasternak speaks with American classical guitarist Giovanni De Chiaro. Since his New York debut in 1976 De Chiaro has concertized throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. He has also recorded two nationally televised special programs for the PBS network and has made numerous recordings for the Louisiana-based Centaur Records, including a four-volume set of his guitar transcriptions of the complete works of Scott Joplin.

John Owings: pianist

Pianist John Owings

Jill Pasternak welcomes pianist John Owings. Owings is a prizewinner of several prestigious competitions, including the gold medal at the first Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition in Cleveland. His CD recordings on the Koch International Classics and Opus Millesime labels have received outstanding reviews, and his most recent CD, on the Pro Organo label, features the complete keyboard works of Julius Reubke. Since 1990 Owings has been a member of the faculty of Texas Christian University.
