The Passing of The Crossing's Jeffrey Dinsmore

Tenor Jeffrey Dinsmore (1972-2014)

Jeffrey Dinsmore, co-founder and integral member of the Philadelphia choral ensemble The Crossing, died suddenly on April 14th in Los Angeles at age 42. The Crossing's conductor Donald Nally sent out this email message (below) about Jeff's passing. This is such a sad loss for Jeff's family and loved ones, and for everyone in Philadelphia's choral community.

J. S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion originally premiered on Good Friday in 1727.

Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts one of the supreme monuments in Western music, and the work that initiated the great rediscovery of Bach’s music when the 20-year-old Felix Mendelssohn conducted it in Berlin in 1829 – the St. Matthew Passion.

Tune in on Thursday, April 17th during the 1 pm hour for a very special 90th birthday tribute to a very special musician and composer. Marcel Farago, longtime cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (1955 to 1994) composed In Memoriam in 1989, dedicated to his wife Adele who died in 1988. Ricardo Muti and The Philadelphia Orchestra premiered the work in the same year. Join us to hear Marcel Farago's In Memoriam as we celebrate his 90th.

Although it's one of his shortest symphonies (at about 55 minutes), it is an epic journey that requires countless hours of analysis and examination of the score. Bach's St. John Passion for Good Friday on WRTI

Valentin Radu conducts the Philadelphia-based Ama Deus Ensemble with soloists in this performance of The Passion According to St. John.

Join WRTI on Good Friday at noon, for a complete performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion, a work written for Good Friday Vespers service of 1724 in Leipzig. This performance was recorded in concert on Good Friday in 2013 in the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center.

Valentin Radu conducts his Ama Deus Ensemble and features soprano Megan Monaghan, alto Jody Kidwell, tenor Kenneth Garner, and bass-baritone Kevin Deas, and The Philadelphia Boys Choir. This performance is sung in English.
