WRTI's Gregg Whiteside is once again traveling across the globe with The Philadelphia Orchestra—this year, on their tour of Europe and Israel with Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. WRTI 90.1 will broadcast and stream four concerts from the tour.

The Orchestra's 2018 tour encompasses six European cities and three Israeli cities.

Each performance will come to life for folks back home—and around the world—with Gregg as host. Broadcasts will be heard in Philadelphia on the radio at 90.1, online at WRTI.org, and on the WRTI App fromHamburg  on May 30, at 3 PM, Vienna on June 1 at 3 PM, Tel Aviv on June 5 at 3 PM, and Jerusalem on June 6 at 3 PM.

WRTI 90.1 will be there when The Philadelphia Orchestra becomes the first American orchestra to perform in Israel since the mid-1990s. The New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony traveled there in 1996; The Philadelphians were last on tour in Israel in 1992 with former Music Director Riccardo Muti.

In the interim, the Orchestra has developed a tradition of marking significant events in Israel, with special concerts in Philadelphia on Israel's 50th and 60th anniversaries, including a side-by-side concert in 1998 with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. This tour coincides with Israel's 70th year as a nation.

“To have this remarkable opportunity to travel to Israel with the extraordinary Philadelphia Orchestra is a dream come true,” said Nézet-Séguin, who will make his first visit to Israel on this tour.

The Orchestra’s tour encompasses six European cities and three Israeli cities, featuring pianists Hélène Grimaud and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Starting on May 24th, European stops include performances over eight days in Brussels, Luxembourg City, Düsseldorf, Paris, Hamburg, and Vienna. The tour will conclude in Israel with performances first in Haifa and Tel Aviv, and with the final concert in Jerusalem on June 5th.
