Violinist Hilary Hahn Performs With The Philadelphia Orchestra on WRTI: Sunday, Sept. 29, 2 PM
Yannick Nezet-Seguin is on the podium this Sunday at 2 pm in a recorded concert from this past May, which featured Hilary Hahn's return to Philadelphia for Korngold's Violin Concerto. This colorful and cinematic score grew out of Korngold's success in Hollywood while writing many of his treasured film soundtracks.
Also on the program, trademark fanfares, folk melodies, and thunderous crescendos punctuate Mahler's First Symphony, along with humorous folk tunes and inventive orchestrations.
And, in addition, a chance to hear a rarely heard and vibrant work by Richard Strauss, another 20th-century master. You'll hear Strauss's Love Scene from his opera Feuersnot - some of the most ravishing music he ever wrote!
During intermission, Susan Lewis' wonderful interview with Ms. Hahn is not to be missed. And both Yannick and The Philadelphia Orchestra's Principal Clarinet Ricardo Morales have some very interesting things to say about about Mahler's hugely popular First Symphony.
That's this Sunday, from 2 to 4 pm. Gregg Whiteside is host and producer.
