Venissa Santi: A Cultural Voyager

Jan 27, 2015

Vocalist Venissa Santi's musical journey has been one of intimate self discovery. Since childhood, her Cuban parents familiarized her with the sounds of her culture, but not until adulthood did she make pilgrimage to Havana and truly fall in love with the country's songbook.

Already armed with a lifelong love of American standards, she returned home to combine her diverse influences into a style that was uniquely her own. Santi's favorite part of performing folk songs is the endless opportunities for growth they present; she finds that as she matures as a person, her singing only improves, as she finally understands the emotional core of her repertoire.

Santi says that her current mission is to make a mark on existing folk traditions, leaving a legacy as a strong, creative, and hopefully inspirational Latina voice to up-and-coming performing.
