Ty Stephens and Peter Beets with Jeff Duperon, Friday, June 28

Jazz with Jeff Duperon is busy Friday June 28th, 6-10 pm! Jeff welcomes singer/songwriter Ty Stephens and the Dutch pianist, composer, and arranger Peter Beets for an in-depth look into their music.

If a triple threat can sing, dance, and act, then mark the Philly-born and -raised Ty Stephens down for seven threats! For over 25 years he's been a globe-trotting singer, dancer, actor, songwriter, author, musical playwight, and stage director. At 6:30, Ty Stephens talks to Jeff.

On Saturday, June 29 Ty Stephens and SoulJaazz play Chris' Jazz Cafe, 1421 Samson St. in Philadelphia, starting 11:30 pm, his first hometown performance in about a decade. It's also one of the few chances to see Ty in this area before his sixth international summer engagement as the House Band at the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club on the Riviera.

Jeff talks to Peter Beets at 9 pm. Peter's signature style, influenced by one of his heroes, Oscar Peterson, is acclaimed worldwide and his star keeps on rising. Among the many prizes he has received are the Dutch Edison Award, the Prix Martial Solal, and the Pall Mall Export Swing Award. In spite of his relatively young age, Beets has a substantial number of impressive recordings, notably seven for the renowned Criss Cross label.

Swinging through the East Coast, Peter Beets, along with Lee Smith and Dan Monaghan, will be at Art After 5 in the Philadelphia Museum of Art Friday June 28, 5-8:45 pm, and jumps right into his interview with Jeff Duperon after his set!

That's Ty Stephens and Peter Beets on Jazz with Jeff Duperon, Friday June 28.

Tune in Fridays, 6-10 pm for Jeff Duperon's mix of new releases and emerging artists, on Jazz with Jeff Duperon, on member-supported WRTI.
