Songs from the Guitar of Milos
Montenegrin guitarist Miloš Karadaglić, or simply Miloš ("mee-lohsh") is taking the classical guitar music world by storm.
His debut CD from 2011, Mediterráneo, in the space of just a few months, topped classical charts around the world, became an internationally best-selling sensation, and earned Miloš Gramophone’s prestigious Young Artist of the Year Award. Not a bad start.
An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon recording artist, his next CD, Pasión, went on to receive both Classic Brit (UK) and Echo Klassik (Germany) awards, and was so successful it was re-released under the name Latino Gold, comprising the original program and some new pieces. Also, Miloš: Heartstrings, a documentary filmed throughout 2012 that charts the guitarist’s story to date, was released on DVD and aired on numerous TV stations.
Miloš has a new disc out now called Canción. Canción means "song," and the program on this CD does not disappoint. A mix of classical and popular songs, Miloš flows from one to the other effortlessly and flawlessly. There's Jobim, Piazzolla, and Villa Lobos here, but there's also Ravel, Boccherini, and much more.
We catch up with Miloš, listen to selections from this new disc, and talk about future projects, including another new disc featuring himself with the London Philharmonic under Yannick Nezet-Seguin, due out in spring 2014.
By the way, a caveat for those who might go looking for Miloš' CDs, especially online - because once you hear him, it's a given you'll want the discs: In some places, Mediterráneo is also known as The Guitar, and Pasión is also known as Latino. These two CDs had both European and International releases, hence the different names. Latino Gold is a special version of Pasión/Latino with added material released for the Asian market. ALL are available online.
Crossover airs Saturday morning at 11:30 am on WRTI-FM, with an encore the following Friday evening at 7 pm on HD2. Both airings can be heard at those times on the All-Classical web stream at wrti.org.
