A young British conductor is developing a fruitful relationship with The Philadelphia Orchestra. WRTI's Jim Cotter reports.
Lauded for his diverse range of conducting styles and his unique sense of silence as an expressive tool, Robin Ticciati has achieved much in his 31 years. He founded a chamber ensemble while only 21, and made his La Scala debut at 22 - the youngest conductor ever to stand on the podium of Italy’s greatest opera house.
At 24 he was appointed principle conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. While earlier this year he took the reins as music director at Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
He first conducted the Philadelphians in early 2012 to very positive responses from audiences. The invitation and his subsequent return to the Verizon Hall podium for him, heralded a new level of trust.
Ticciati has a reputation for getting the best out of orchestras by enabling and listening to the musicians in front of him. He comes to each performance with an open mind, but a very well-studied score.
