The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert on WRTI: Berlioz and a Young Cellist's Debut, July 30, 1 PM

Cellist Stéphane Tétreault";

The third re-broadcast of the Philadelphia Orchestra’s 2016-17 season has an all-French theme, and it’s yours to enjoy this Sunday, July 30th at 1 pm and Monday, July 31st at 7 pm on HD-2, as WRTI presents The Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert. Download our App to listen wherever you are in the world!

The centerpiece of the program features a performance by the brilliant young French-Canadian cellist, Stéphane Tétreault, of Camille Saint-Saens’s Cello Concerto No 1. The 23-year-old cellist is the recipient of Bernard Greenhouse’s cello, the 1707 “Countess of Stainlein, ex-Paganini” Stradivarius, on generous loan by Mrs. Jacqueline Désmarais. Mr. Tétreault makes his Philadelphia Orchestra debut with this performance.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the concert that begins with Berlioz’s Le Corsaire Overture, and ends with a reprise of his Symphonie fantastique.

So, it’s all French this coming Sunday, and you'll be in for a real treat!

During intermission, WRTI’s Debra Lew Harder interviews Stéphane Tétreault, and Susan Lewis speaks with The Philadelphia Orchestra’s English horn, Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia, who opens the third movement of Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique with that work’s challenging and evocative English horn solo.

Not to be missed, it all happens this Sunday, July 30th at 1 pm on WRTI 90.1 FM in Philadelphia and streaming online at WRTI.org.
