Opera's Leading Man: Heartthrob Roberto Alagna

Roberto Alagna is back at the Met, and back in the kind of romantic leading role that has made him an operatic heartthrob. The superstar tenor, having recently celebrated a landmark birthday, tells WRTI's Jim Cotter that he's also in one the greatest periods of his life, both personally and artistically.

Over the course of his almost 20 year-long relationship with the equally fiery Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu, the couple's on again/off again relationship was the stuff of the tabloids. They were variously dubbed the Burton and Taylor and Bonnie and Clyde of opera.  They finally divorced earlier this year; in June he turned 50, and in September he announced that he and the Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak were expecting a baby.

As part of the Metropolitan Opera's 2013/2014 Live in HD Series, Roberto Alagna stars opposite Patricia Racette in the Puccini's Tosca in movie theaters around the world this Saturday, November 9th at 1 pm.
