Oboist as Musician AND Master Craftsman!
A top-tier oboist is not only musically gifted, but also a skilled craftsman. As WRTI’s Susan Lewis reports, the sound of the instrument relies on a sliver of wood, usually made by the player himself.
Richard Woodhams plays Strauss’s Oboe Concerto with The Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center on Friday October 4th, Saturday October 5th, and Sunday October 6th. The concert, led by Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin, also includes Britten's Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell, and Mahler's 4th Symphony, and features soprano Christiane Karg.
