The dazzling Macedonian pianist Simon Trpceski performs Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini this Sunday, February 14th from 1 to 3 pm on WRTI’s Philadelphia Orchestra in Concert broadcast, recorded live this past November.
The concert, which brought guest conductor Gianandrea Noseda back to the podium for his second week with The Philadelphia Orchestra this season, also includes the ever-popular overture to Rossini’s opera, La gazza ladra - The Thieving Magpie, and a U.S. premiere a hundred years in the making, the propulsive Symphony No. 2 by Alfredo Casella. This is a work for lovers of big orchestral sound!
Gianandrea Noseda, Musical America’s 2015 Conductor of the Year, recently signed a multi-year contract to become the music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, and has appeared with The Philadelphia Orchestra every season since his debut in December 2010. It was recently announced that he will be returning next season, too.
