The enlightening and well-received performance series Keyboard Conversations with Jeffrey Siegel returns to the Kimmel Center this year for its ninth season. Mr. Siegel, a virtuoso pianist who has performed with the world's great orchestras, has been praised internationally for his popular signature Keyboard Conversations programs, which he performs worldwide.
Each program tackles a particular musical subject around which Siegel weaves his insights regarding that subject. Intertwined are complete pieces of music that illustrate the points he's making. Basically, as he says himself, it's a "concert with commentary."
For example, Siegel's first show of the season on Tuesday November 12th is called, The Glory of Beethoven. Among the works he'll be performing on solo piano, in their entirety, the Apassionata Sonata and the Sonata No. 31 in A-flat. Prior to each work, Siegel will present information and insight about Beethoven and these pinnacles of the piano repertoire, written well after deafness overwhelmed him.
You'll get the idea when you listen to Crossover this week. Not only will Jill be speaking with Jeffrey Siegel, but you'll hear examples of his programs, including part of The Romantic Music of Chopin, recorded at the Kimmel's Perlman Theater in 2010.
Siegel's two other programs this season will be another performance of The Romantic Music of Chopin, February 3rd and Mistresses and Masterpieces, featuring stories and music of Brahms, Schumann and Liszt, April 22nd.
