Memorial Day Weekend on WRTI
Join us from Saturday morning through Tuesday morning for non-stop fabulous music. You'll hear American works by Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, John Philip Sousa, and other favorites, and patriotic works honoring America's servicemen and women. Big Band music will have you swinging and singing through the holiday evenings and early-morning hours. Plus, a high school sophomore from Lansdale, PA is showcased on From the Top this Sunday. What a weekend!
Special Programming on Sunday Includes:
From the Top: 2 to 3 pm
Helen Gerhold, a 15-year-old harpist from the Philadelphia region, is showcased. A young woman with a busy agenda, she's a student at Germantown Academy, the principal harpist for the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and a member of the Temple Prep Harp Ensemble. Way to go Helen!
Sunday Afternoon Concert Special: 3 to 5 pm
Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone
Award-winning play set to music about the life of American composer George Gershwin
Big Band Jazz with Bob Craig: 7 to 8 pm
A big birthday tribute to "King of Swing" Benny Goodman
United States Air Force Band: 9 to 10 pm
Airmen of Note Alumni perform standards including "Sophisticated Lady," "Begin the Beguine," and, of course, "The U.S. Air Force Song."
