Lyric Opera of Chicago on WRTI: Mozart's THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, May 14, 1 PM

We're kicking off the Lyric Opera of Chicago's nine-week broadcast season on Saturday, May 14th from 1 to 5 pm with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera buffa The Marriage of Figaro, composed in 1786. Join us as the resourceful Figaro gets ready to marry his lovely Susanna – and endeavors to get his fiancée to the altar with her virtue still intact!

His boss, the Count, has designs on Susanna and sees no reason to let her escape his noble snare, even if it means breaking the heart of his own long-suffering bride. But there’s rebellion in the air in a comedy that boasts more salon drama and backroom maneuverings than a whole season of Downton Abbey.

Enjoy Mozart’s masterpiece of mistaken identities, morals, and manners. Experience the Lyric Opera of Chicago debuts of two major European stars – Adam Plachetka and Christiane Karg – with Luca Pisaroni as the incorrigibly rapacious Count and Amanda Majeski as “a ravishing, moving, and dignified Countess.” (Financial Times)

Peter Van de Graaff and LOC Dramaturg Roger Pines are your hosts. Henry Nanasi conducts.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago broadcast season includes previously recorded live performances of Cinderella, Wozzeck, The Merry Widow, Bel Canto, Nabucco, Der Rosenkavalier, Romeo and Juliet, and Rusalka.
