If you haven’t yet heard the resonant, rich sound of the solo double bass in concert, now’s your chance. On Friday, January 26th at noon, the superb, young double bass soloist and composer Xavier Foley will play LIVE from WRTI 90.1’s performance studio.
Xavier has captivated audiences with “with superbly executed performances…playing fluidly and passionately” (Splash Magazines). He’ll speak with WRTI Classical Host Debra Lew Harder and play with her, too, in a program that includes a solo work of J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, and Xavier's own composition, Falling Seagull.
Xavier has appeared as soloist with the Atlanta Symphony, the Nashville Symphony, and with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra and Virtuosi. Among his numerous awards, he’s a winner of Astral Artists 2014 National Auditions and Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2016.
An avid chamber musician, he has participated in the prestigious Marlboro Music Festival and the Delaware Chamber Music Festival, and is currently a resident artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two program.
Xavier studied composition with Edgar Meyer and Eric Sessler at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2016 under Edgar Meyer and Harold Robinson.
Next season, Xavier’s appearances include a recital for Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and a concert at the Kennedy Center. Tune in for what’s sure to be an intriguing performance, Friday, January 26, at noon, at WRTI 90.1, streaming at WRTI.org and on the WRTI mobile app.
