Chinese musician Wu Man is a virutouso on the Pipa, a lute-like instrument dating back over 2,000 years. A soloist, educator, and composer, she's a founding member of YoYo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. She's featured as performer and composer in the group's 2017 Grammy-winning recording, Sing Me Home.
Wu Man also collaborates with many composers, conductors, and other ensembles, and has appeared in over 40 recordings throughout her career.
Wu Man is visiting WRTI in advance of her appearance with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia on Sunday December 9th at 2:30 pm and Monday December 10th at 7:30 pm. In those concerts, she'll perform the Philadelphia premiere of Dirk Brosse's Mu yan Gu-niang, Lou Harrison's Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra, and a work for solo pipa she herself wrote.
