Live from the WRTI 90.1 Performance Studio: The Ahn Trio of Sisters, April 19 at 12:10 PM

Apr 16, 2018

Hailed as “exciting and exacting” by the L.A. Times, the genre-bending and stylish Ahn Trio will perform live in the WRTI Performance Studio on Thursday, April 19th at 12:10 pm. WRTI's Debra Lew Harder is host.

Watch the broadcast live on the WRTI Facebook page.

The trio will play contemporary music written for, or arranged, by them, and talk with Debra about their innovative collaborations with composers and dancers, including their current Philadelphia appearance with the Nai Ni Chen Dance Company, A Quest for Freedom, for the NextMove Dance Series at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia, April 19-22.

The Ahn sisters (Lucia on piano, Angella on violin, and Maria on cello) were born in Seoul, South Korea, and educated at Juilliard.

Their creative approach to music has led to an international concert career, including a 2011 performance at the White House for a State Dinner honoring South Korea, by invitation of President Barack Obama.

The stellar list of composers who have written for them include Michael Nyman, Pat Metheny, Paul Shoenfield, Mark O’Connor, Kenji Bunch, and Nikolai Kapustin.

Their Sony album, Lullaby for my Favorite Insomniac, took the No. 8 spot on the Billboard Charts list for 26 weeks, in the Classical album category.

Not camera-shy, the photogenic Ahn Trio has graced the pages of magazines such as Time, Vogue, GQ, Glamour, and People, which named the Ahns three of the "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2003.

Make sure to tune in on Thursday, April 19 at 12:10 pm for lively music and a fascinating conversation with the Ahn Trio.
