LIVE from Verizon Hall: The Philadelphia Orchestra with Hilary Hahn, Dec. 10th at 2 PM on WRTI 90.1

Violinist Hilary Hahn

We'll be at Verizon Hall this Sunday at 2 pm bringing you a LIVE concert broadcast of The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, performing Bernstein’s Serenade—a musical retelling of Plato's ode to love—with soloist Hilary Hahn, the Orchestra’s 2017/18 artist-in-residence.

Bernstein’s Serenade was written for his friend Isaac Stern, and it was recorded to great critical acclaim by Ms. Hahn when she was only 18 years old, five years after she made her Philadelphia Orchestra debut.

Back in 2013, Opera Philadelphia received raves when it staged the local premiere of Thomas Adès's Powder Her Face. And in a subsequent Philadelphia Orchestra co-commission, Yannick conducts the first U.S. performances of a suite of music from the opera, the last of which will be on this Sunday's program.

And finally, Jean Sibelius's Symphony No. 1, evoking a grandiose Scandinavian musical panorama, closes the program.
