It's a Jingle Bell Jazz Christmas on WRTI!

Dec 15, 2016

Where can you find the perfect jazz soundtrack to add comfort and joy to your holiday season? You guessed it! As we inch closer to Christmas, you'll hear more and more of the classic holiday jazz you love on WRTI.

We have festive hits from Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and the rest of your favorites. There are also plenty of amazing new holiday releases this year, including music from Kurt Elling, the NOLA Players, Leslie Odom Jr., and more.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will feature all holiday music. Jeff Duperon will bring you musical warmth, both old and new, for a wonderful soundtrack for your dinners and gatherings. David Ortiz will present traditional Puerto Rican and Cuban Christmas music during El Viaje, from 9 pm until midnight, and host Stephen Sky will continue the holiday cheer all night long, including something special for those with tiny tots.

If you have little ones, Christmas Day will probably have you awake before the sun. Be sure to tune in with the family at 5 am for a special hour of Songs To Open Presents To.  Stephen Sky will bring you tunes the kids will love, like Frosty, Rudolph, the Grinch, and, of course, the big man in the red suit!

At 6 am, it's a Gospel Christmas morning with Warren Cooper and I. Robin Booker presenting a yuletide edition of Ovations! It will be a celebration of the story that never gets old with Odetta, Mahalia Jackson, Fred Hammond, Bunny Siegler, and others.

At 9 am, WRTI jazz hosts will present some of their favorite yuletide carols.

At 9 pm, back by popular demand, A Swinging Holiday Jazz Party with Wynton Marsalis will grace our airwaves. You'll hear all of Wynton's favorite seasonal tunes, and we all know his taste is impeccable. Be sure to tune in and party with Wynton, and keep the party going with Jeff Duperon!

And also back by popular demand, it's the Top 100 Jazz Countdown of 2016! The fun starts on December 26th at 9 pm, and should wind down on Thursday the 29th, shortly before midnight.

Then ring in 2017 with David Ortiz and his New Year’s Eve edition of El Viaje starting at 9 pm, with some of the best Latin releases of 2016. At midnight, Tim Johnstone will reflect on years past with songs for each season. It’ll be our favorite jazz tunes about winter, spring, summer, and fall to celebrate another journey around the sun!
