Honoring Count Basie on WRTI: November 2nd to 8th

Join us during jazz hours as we bring you a swingin' tribute to the iconic bandleader, pianist, and composer.

Our hosts will warm you up for The Cape May Jazz Festival, scheduled for November 6th to 8th, where the legacy of Count Basie will be the theme. If you're heading to Cape May, look out for our own "BP with the GM," Maureen Malloy, and Jeff Duperon; they'll be on the scene, hosting Festival events. A special episode of Riverwalk Jazz: The Kid from Red Bank - The Unmistakable Basie Beat, will air on Sunday, Nov. 8th at 7 pm. And you'll hear tracks throughout the week from the album Count Basie Orchestra Swinging, Singing Playing, which enjoyed a prominent spot on our Jazz Hot 11 list for many weeks.More about the amazing album Count Basie Orchestra Swinging, Singing Playing

The legacy of Count Basie continues on as Dennis Wilson leads the orchestra that carries the Basie flame (and name). This new project salutes the jazz masters by pairing amazing band with guest artists that are some of the biggest names on the jazz scene.

The album features Geri Allen, Jamie Cullum, Nnenna Freelon, Curtis Fuller and many other jazz greats putting their all into some American classics. This is a tribute that would make the Count proud.
