You'll hear works by George M. Cohan and Stephen Foster - whose birthdays are over the holiday weekend - and music by Philadelphia-born composer and arranger Hershy Kay from the ballet Stars and Stripes, featuring arrangements of works by John Philip Sousa.

Great Singers and Big Swingers Weekend:
Jazz Fans: Get Ready to Swing!

WRTI will celebrate our nation's independence with another Great Singers and Big Swingers Weekend, filled with your favorite vocalists of all time and some of the greatest big bands jazz has to offer.

Bob Craig will kick things off on Saturday evening, and we will keep on swinging' right through Tuesday morning with music from Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Dorsey, the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band and other classic jazz names. We also have new works from contemporary jazz big bands like Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, and a brand-new release from the Gerald Wilson Orchestra!

Bob Craig will keep you swinging during Big Band Jazz with Bob Craig on Sunday, July 3 at 7 pm. Bob has collected some big bands songs with USA themes. You'll hear "Georgia On My Mind," "Chicago," and more...

Stay tuned at 8 pm on Sunday for another installment of this year's Airmen of Note series. This time, the program features the United States Air Force Band and Kurt Rosenwinkel - one of the world's hottest jazz guitarists and a Philadelphia native. Kurt grew up in the Mount Airy section of the City; now he lives in Berlin. Kurt's musicianship is respected around the globe; you can hear him honor the USA when he revisits standards with one of our country's finest and most patriotic group of musicians.

The great singers and big swingers will still be doing their thing on Monday evening, until the HOT 11 Countdown kicks off at 10:30 pm. Then the nostalgia is back until the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Join us!
