Giuseppe Verdi: LA TRAVIATA on April 14th

Be sure to join us on Saturday, April 14th, from 1 to 4 pm, for Giuseppe Verdi's eternally popular opera La Traviata - the tale of a conflicted courtesan, her devoted lover, and his disapproving father.

An opera in three acts, La Traviata  is set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It's based on La dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The title La traviata means literally The Fallen Woman, or perhaps more figuratively, The Woman Who Goes Astray. It was originally entitled Violetta, after the main character. Natalie Dessay appears in her first Violetta at the Met. Matthew Polenzani sings Alfredo, Dmitri Hvorostovsky is Germont, and Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.
