The Crossing Chamber Choir in Concert on WRTI: The Sounds of Light, May 24 at 4 PM

Join us on Sunday, May 24th for a concert broadcast of The Crossing chamber choir, recorded live at Longwood Gardens this past April, amidst the full spring bloom at the renowned botanical gardens.

The concert focused on light - of this world and beyond - in the rich harmonies of music by Edwin Fissinger, the effervescent, yet surprisingly rhythmic writing of Ko Matsushita, and music by Eriks EsenValds, whose stunning timbres mixing tuned water glasses with voices bring a new dimension to musical depictions of light. And the legendary beauty of Longwood was mirrored in the swirling sounds and provocative textures of works for cello and choir by John Tavener and P?teris Vasks.

The Crossing’s conductor, Donald Nally, explains that when programming the concert, “I knew that we would be moving from winter into spring. And so I chose the theme of light - all kinds of light - light from the Northern Lights, light as described in ancient Latin texts, and the blessed light of the trinity."

Listen to the concert on WRTI - on the radio at 90.1 FM in Philadelphia or online at WRTI.org - Sunday, May 24th, 4 to 5 pm. Donald Nally conducts. More about The Crossing.
