Classical Guitarist Sharon Isbin

Grammy Award-winning classical guitarist Sharon Isbin is Jill's guest this week. Her new CD - Journey to the New World - takes you from the Renaissance to the world of Bluegrass music, and features guest performers including singer Joan Baez and fiddler Mark O'Connor in the world premiere of his folk-inspired suite for violin and guitar.

Sharon Isbin has been hailed by the Atlanta Journal as "The Monet of the classical guitar...a master colorist" and by the Boston Globe as "...one of the best guitarists in the world." Ms. Isbin has appeared as soloist with over 160 orchestras, and has toured Europe annually since she was in her teens. The world-renowned guitarist is a prolific artist; her catalog of over 25 recordings ranges from Baroque, Spanish/Latin and 20th century to crossover and jazz-fusion.

Born in Minneapolis, Ms. Isbin began her guitar studies at age nine. She was a student of Andres Segovia and received her MA from the Yale School of Music. She is the author of the Classical Guitar Answer Book, and is director of guitar departments at the Aspen Music Festival and The Juilliard School.
