Christmas with The Crossing Choir on WRTI: December 25

3 to 4 pm

If you haven't heard of The Crossing chamber choir, here's the perfect opportunity to hear their gorgeous voices on WRTI. The highly acclaimed Philadelphia-based ensemble, directed by Donald Nally, is a 24-voice professional choir dedicated to performing contemporary and recently composed vocal music. Listen to the ensemble's inaugural broadcast on WRTI - you'll hear their magnificent Christmas Daybreak concert, recorded especially for broadcast.

The program includes the first-ever broadcast of James MacMillan's Alpha and Omega (2011) and the world premiere of Zachary Wadsworth's Gabriel's Message (with special guests The Choir of St. Paul's Church, Chestnut Hill). With organist Scott Dettra of Washington National Cathedral playing the wonderful organ of St. Paul's Church, the program will also include Benjamin CS Boyle's Three Carols for Wintertide, new takes on beloved texts and tunes, several works by Gabriel Jackson, and Christmas Daybreak by Robert Convery. The local Pig Iron Theatre Company takes part in the concert; their sections of the broadcast were recorded at WRTI's performance studio in October.
