Our monthly broadcast of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia presents the U.S. premiere of a work for piano and orchestra by the Lebanese-born, French composer Rami Kalifé.
Stories for Piano and Orchestra is a work Kalifé describes as being "charged with emotion, each track captures a moment in time. They carry my vision for music: free from any constraints, borders or restrictions." He calls the seven tracks from Stories “a series of soundscapes. Resistance blends techno with contemporary and a dash of romanticism… ‘Pulse, Life and Goose Bumps’ emerge as the pop song of the series… and ‘Steps on the Dance Floor’ is a DJ spinning turntables.”
Born in 1981 in Beirut, Rami Khalifé has been called “a musician of extreme caliber and pure expression… a welcome experimental detour from the norm of today and in the relatively conformist world of classical composition.”
