Beethoven's Ninth Opening the London Olympics: July 29 at 3 pm on ENCORE!

Daniel Barenboim conducts Beethoven's Ninth to launch the 2012 Olympics...and you'll hear the entire concert on WRTI!

Barenboim’s Beethoven cycle reaches its climax with a youthful take on the traditional annual Proms performance of the Ninth, perhaps the richest, most provocative statement in Western art music.

An impressive team of soloists joins the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra to project the finale’s inclusive vision of hope, reconciliation and hard-won triumph. What better to mark the opening of the London 2012 Olympics than Beethoven’s ultimate hymn to universal brotherhood?

The world is turning to London this month as the 2012 Olympic Games kick off. Recorded in concert on Friday, WRTI is presenting the concert in its entirety from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday!
