AVA on WRTI: La Boheme

Sunday, May 9
3 to 6 pm
Academy of Vocal Arts
Giacomo Puccini: La Boheme

AVA will close its landmark 75th Anniversary season with La boheme. The opera's depiction of life among starving artists in 19th century Paris is an ideal choice for AVA's young cast members, who are able to identify with the characters as they pursue their own artistic goals. Music Director Christofer Macatsoris conducts the AVA Opera Orchestra. AVA presents Puccini's masterpiece about once every five years. The past two productions of La boheme have actually resulted in real-life marriages for the singers who portrayed star-crossed lovers Mimi and Rodolfo - Shawn Mathey and Su Jin Lee in the 2001 production, and Stephen Costello and Ailyn Perez in 2005's performance.

The cast for the 2010 production features: Mimi: Jan Cornelius, Musetta: Corinne Schaefer, Rodolfo: Zach Borichevsky, Marcello: Alex Lawrence, Shaunard: Ryan Kuster, Colline: Nicholas Masters, and Benoit/Alcindoro: Zachary Nelson.

The Center City performances for La boheme are sold out, but you can still hear the talented AVA singers on WRTI. Tickets are available for performances in Warrington, Haverford, and Camden. The production runs from May 1st to 15th.
