You'll hear two of the one-act operas from Il Trittico - GIANNI SCHICCHI AND IL TABARRO (the cloak).

More information about both operas, plus videos and photos on the AVA website!

Gianni Schicchi

Richard Raub, conductor

Tito Capobianco, stage director

Briefly mentioned in Dante’s Inferno, title character Gianni Schicchi plays upon the avarice of a dead man’s family to take for himself the large part of their inheritance.

Debuting in Philadelphia in 1918, Philly audiences have seen Nelson Eddy and Licia Albanese perform roles. The 2009 Opera Company of Philadelphia production featured AVA alumni Ailyn Pérez and Stephen Costello as Lauretta and Rinuccio.

Il tabarro

Christofer Macatsoris, conductor

Tito Capobianco, stage director

Il tabarro (“The cloak”) was originally conceived as a companion piece for Gianni Schicchi in Puccini’s Il trittico (along with Suor Angelica). It is the second-most frequently performed of the Triptych and is often paired with Gianni Schicchi. Presented in the style of verismo (“realism”) opera, the story revolves around a love triangle of a barge owner, his wife and a stevedore.

The cloak that once warmed the barge owner's young bride now hides a chilling secret for her...
