WRTI presents Symphony in C under the baton of Music Director Rossen Milanov on March 17th at 4 pm. Written when Mendelssohn was only 17, his Midsummer Night's Dream Overture was the first "concert overture" - a work not intended to introduce a dramatic presentation, but to represent, complete in itself, a literary work, or story, or place.

Two Sets of Four Seasons: Symphony in C on ENCORE!

Experience "The Four Seasons" with two composers from two continents. Hear the original work by Vivaldi, and then travel to South America to engage in the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, by Astor Piazolla. Symphony in C Concertmaster Stefani Collins is soloist, with Music Director Rossen Milanov conducting. Sunday, December 16th, 3 to 5 pm.

A Classical Thanksgiving with WRTI

We have the music for the perfect Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Beginning on Thursday, join us for a particularly American flavor with music by American composers from Copland to Bernstein to John Alden Carpenter. There will also be a family celebration with some of the great names in music, including the Bachs, the Strauss family, father and son Mozart and more!

Symphony in C Starts a New Season on WRTI: Oct. 14th, 3 pm on Encore!

It's the first broadcast of the season for the acclaimed Symphony in C, and it's an exciting Sunday afternoon on WRTI. The program starts with the 2013 winner of Symphony in C's Young Composers' Competition, a work by Douglas Buchanan. Pianist Di Wu joins the orchestra for a Rachmaninoff favorite, and the concert concludes with Tchaikovsky's final symphony. Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts. Sunday, October 14th, 3 to 5 pm.

In recent times, Philadelphians have been made well aware of the fiscal challenges of sustaining a symphony orchestra. Now, around the country, other cities are experiencing such problems first hand. Serious doubts hang over the immediate viability of orchestras in Atlanta, Minnesota, St Paul, Indianapolis, and San Antonio with others likely to soon follow suit.

Susan Lewis profiles Tempesta Di Mare. The Philadelphia-based Baroque orchestra is celebrating its 10th anniversary with concerts featuring fanfares, suites, and a birthday symphony.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's David Patrick Stearns examines the relationship between star tenor Stephen Costello and his coach Bill Schuman, an Academy of Vocal Arts faculty member who is considered to be one of the great voice builders - and rebuilders - in the business.
