They kicked it up a notch, and ushered in an era known as "modern jazz" - which some dubbed "bebop."

Amazingly, Parker was only widely known for about a decade before he died in 1955 at the age of 34. He accomplished great fame while living a self-destructive lifestyle, which included frequent use of controlled substances and consumption of hard liquor. But despite living on the edge, his genius shined through.
Wed, 05 Sep 2012 21:56:00 +0000 Bob Perkins 2485 at http://wrti.org Bob Perkins Recommends...Charlie Parker with Strings: The Master Takes Bob Perkins Recommends: Joe Pass & J.J. The number of his works is already approaching 1,000 for this just barely 30 composer, and represents every form, even multiple symphonies and operas. In addition to composing he is an excellent organist who frequently performs new music, and between editing organ and hymn music he is Composer in Residence for The Memorial Church, Harvard University.
Thu, 28 Jun 2012 20:45:08 +0000 Kile Smith 4075 at http://wrti.org Kile Smith Recommends: The Welcome News - Choral Music of Carson Cooman Mark Pinto Recommeds...VERDI: COMPLETE BALLET MUSIC FROM THE OPERAS http://wrti.org/post/mark-pinto-recommedsverdi-complete-ballet-music-operas
Think you know your Verdi operas?
