We'll remember Stan Kenton's 101st birthday this Sunday with a focus on some of the great soloists with the band. Art Pepper, Bob Cooper, Vido Musso, and Maynard Ferguson were major players. You'll hear them and others on Big Band Jazz this Sunday evening, 7 to 8 pm.

It's the Latin side of Stan Kenton's band this Sunday, June 29th, 7 to 8 pm on Big Band Jazz with Bob Craig.

Starting in the mid 1940s with "Tampico" and "Peanut Vendor" and with albums like Cuban Fire and Viva Kenton, this sound became a favorite with his fans. Also featured: a few alumni from the band that went on to form their own groups - guys like Pete Rugolo, Maynard Ferguson, and Bill Holman.
