Romeo and Juliet http://wrti.org en LA Opera: ROMEO ET JULIETTE on July 21st http://wrti.org/post/la-opera-romeo-et-juliette-july-21st <p>Soprano Nino Machaidze and tenor Vittorio Grigolo star as the world&rsquo;s most famous lovers in Charles Gounod&#39;s <em>ROMEO ET JULIETTE.</em> An opera in five acts, with a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, it&#39;s based on The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It was first performed at the Théâtre Lyrique (Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial du Châtelet) in Paris on April 27th, 1867. History Museum at the Atwater Kent Gil Shaham: violinist http://wrti.org/post/gil-shaham-violinist <p>Jill Pasternak speaks with the world-famous violinist about his recording of <em>The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto</em>, an orchestral adaptation of a popular Chinese legend.</p> <p>Written in 1959 by composers Chen Gang and He Zhanhao while they were students at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, <em>The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto </em>premiered in the same year featuring renowned violinist Yu Lina.
